Using screencaps of Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike from Star Trek's original pilot, "The Cage," I've dressed him in old Trek uniforms, to make him appear as he did in Star Trek XI. Had the film taken place in the Prime Universe, he might've looked like this at the beginning and end of the film.

Awesome work with this. Although the Enterprise in the background looks a bit out of place to me.

I thought that a busy background, such as the Enterprise wallpaper from the home site, would contrast well against the rather, well, plain sights of Captain Pike. Thanks for the comment, Nathan. Yes, I still kinda hate the movie. :P But it's not all *that* bad.

What the $#%@ does car insurance have to do with Star Trek? Who's $%#@&* insuring the Enterprise? Geico!?

Well, you've come along way.At first, you boycotted the film, and now,its not that bad. Maybe in time it will grow on you? (I hope it does)

'Wrath of Khan' is still the best Trek film though :)

It's grown on me in the sense that it's a pure popcorn-summer flick. The film buff in me can't help but wince at the horrible inconsistencies in the movie, though. Putting the Trekkie aside, I see that this is *still* a piss-poor put together movie!

I hope a different director is brought in, fire the writers, leave them in TV land where they belong.

I was actually able to ignore the inconsistencies, and enjoy the movie. But on the STO Boards,we have members that point out everything about the movie that even remotely qualifies as an inconsistency. Some of them are arguable (like how the USS Kelvin had 800 crew members and was able to evacuate all of them on shuttlecraft) to harder to justify ones, like why Pike would choose a third-year cadet (Kirk) to be next in line for the captains chair.

Yeah, I understand those--but I'm looking at filmmaking inconsistencies. I watched the film in a purely objective and unbiased mode, and things bugged me. Cinematography, lens flares, pacing, script issues, plot holes. These writers are hacks! Not in Trek terms, but by decent filmmaker's terms!

I think a lot of those inconsistencies may be fixed by in the extended DVD cut. Many scenes that were filmed (like Nero's escape from Rura Penthe) were cut from the movie, which is really a shame because it was done to prevent the average movie-goer (who isn't particularly bright) from getting confused.

And those lens flares have become quite infamous...

That they have, my friend. But these writers, producers, etc.... They belong on the small screen. Abrams is a TV guy. He needs to STAY away from filmmaking. Honestly. I want this whole actioncam fad to go away, too. Talk about disorienting.

I liked the actioncam, when it was used on Battlestar Galactica. Because it seemed unique to the show, and it fit with the style the producers wanted. But,I was watching a Star Trek fanfilm (one of the New Voyages ones) and they had a similar "shaky camera, zoom in/zoom out" affect, and it seemed out of place in Star Trek. But since it was a fanfilm,I didn't mind.
I was surprised to see the effect used in Star Trek XI,and a bit disappointed. It should stay with BSG
