You know how popular video games usually get a live film adaptation? Yeah, you know the usuals: Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, etc. But someone had obviously skipped over Donkey Kong! Why?
C'mon, what's so crazy about a giant ape who kidnaps some woman and chucks barrels at a Italian carpenter? Isn't that a great premise?
Inspiration struck and, well, inspired me to create this piece based on the beloved game. Whenever I think of a real-life Mario, I think of Bob Hoskins. Granted, that movie (which to some should remain unnamed) left a bad taste in our mouths, but I hardly blame any part on Bob Hoskins. And I actually thought he was the best part of it all.
So here's Mr. Hoskins once again donning the Mario 'stache to do battle against an irate ape! You'll notice he's wearing the more traditional Mario garb with a realistic feel; a construction hat, since he IS a carpenter here, a toolbelt strapped on tight and a sledgehammer tight in hand.
Created in Adobe Photoshop CS3. Bob Hoskins obviously belongs to himself. Mario, Donkey Kong and Pauline belong to Nintendo, © 1981.
